This work supported the focus on Black History that Year 5 are studying this term. The children recreated the journey from Jamaica to England, from packing suitcases and saying goodbye to loved ones to boarding the ship with Lord Kitchener. The children explored the difficulties of finding a room and working in a foreign, and not necessarily friendly,  country. The children gained an in-depth knowledge of the topic and explored both the emotional and practical aspects of migration.
